OTA2017: Similar 2-yr function with single- versus double-screw fixation for malleolar fracture
140 patients with a medial malleolar fracture and required screw fixation were randomized to fixation completed with either one or two screws. Patients were assessed over 2-year follow-up for outcomes related to function, symptomatic hardware, and hardware removal. Throughout the 2-year follow-up period, no significant differences in functional scores on the Short Form 36-Item General Health Survey were observed.
