AAOS: Superior outcome when elbow rotation is delayed following radial head fracture

300 patients with radial head fractures were randomized to receive a mobilization protocol with either early or delayed active elbow rotation. The purpose was to determine whether the difference in timing has an effect on clinical outcome after 2 years. Result indicated that patients with delayed elbow rotation enjoyed significantly better Broberg-Morrey scores, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons-Elbow (ASES-E) scores, range of motion (ROM), and visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores. Additionally in this group, fracture healing was faster and there was a lower proportion of nonunions.
