110 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to be administered either intraarticular tranexamic acid or intravenous tranexamic acid. Patients were assessed for perioperative blood loss based on the drop in hemoglobin to the third postoperative day. Transfusion requirement and the incidence of venous thromboembolic complications were also recorded. Results demonstrated no significant difference between groups in perioperative blood loss volume. No cases of transfusion or VTE were recorded in either group.
