AAOS2018: Resolution of spinal anesthesia shorter with mepivacaine versus bupivacaine in TKA

31 patients scheduled for primary total knee arthroplasty were randomized to spinal anesthesia with either mepivacaine or bupivacaine. Patients were assessed for the primary outcome of time to complete resolution of the motor and sensory blockade, evaluated at 20-minute intervals. Results demonstrated a significantly shorter time to motor and sensory blockade resolution in the mepivacaine group compared to the bupivacaine group. Time to discharge readiness was also significantly shorter in the mepivacaine group compared to the bupivacaine group.
