103 patients over the age of 50 with unstable, closed intra- or extra-articular dorsally displaced distal radius fractures were randomized to receive treatment with either palmar fixed-angle plating or mixed pinning. Clinical and radiological outcomes were assessed up to 26 weeks postoperatively. Functional results from the DASH and Herzberg scores were significantly better in the plating group compared to pinning patients.
