Better longer-term results with PRP versus CS and placebo injection for plantar fasciitis
J Foot Ankle Surg. 2019 Jan;58(1):42-46. doi: 10.1053/j.jfas.2018.07.00690 patients with plantar fasciitis were randomized to one of three injection options: platelet rich plasma, corticosteroid (methylprednisolone), or placebo. Patients were assessed for outcome related to pain on a visual analog scale and function on the Roles and Maudsley score from 1 week to 18 months post-injection. At 1 week, corticosteroid injection demonstrated favourable pain and function scores compared to PRP injection, while at 12 and 18 months, PRP injection demonstrated significantly favourable pain and function score compared to corticosteroid injection.
