24 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to either visual biofeedback during postoperative weight-bearing or no feedback during weight-bearing postoperatively. Patients were assessed for peak load, loading rate, and cadence on postoperative days 1 through 4, and at a 12-week outpatient visit. Results demonstrated significantly greater peak load on PODs 1-4 and at 12 weeks in the group which received the visual biofeedback in comparison to the control group. No significant differences between groups were observed in loading rate or cadence at any time point.
