12 randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis for the purpose of investigating potential differences in reoperation rates following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) at the index level and/or adjacent levels for patients with cervical spondylosis. Results demonstrated that patients who underwent CDA required significantly fewer reoperations at the index level, the adjacent levels, or at either level type when compared to patients who received ACDF up to seven years post-surgery. However, due to methodological and bias limitations, further investigation comparing these surgical treatments is required before clinical interpretation can be made.
