6 RCTs (609 patients) were included in this meta-analysis which examined the risk of nonunion after fracture in patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The primary outcome of interest was nonunion, and the relative risk based on duration of use and type of NSAID was analyzed via a regression analysis. The results revealed that NSAID use longer than 4 weeks resulted in a significant increase in risk of nonunion, while NSAID use less than 2 weeks did not display any significant risk of nonunion. Furthermore, indomethacin was found to be associated with a significant risk of nonunion compared to other types of NSAIDs, which did not display any significant risk of nonunion.
