Comparison of analgesic efficacy between fascia iliaca vs. lumbar plexus block in hip arthroscopy
J Clin Anesth. 2018 Sep;49:26-29. doi: 10.1016/j.jclinane.2018.05.01248 patients scheduled for arthroscopic hip surgery were randomized to postoperative analgesia featuring either a fascia iliaca block or lumbar plexus block. Patients were assessed for pain on a numeric rating scale at 15 minutes after administration, as well as opioid consumption within the postanaesthesia care unit, postoperative days 0 (ie. remainder of day of surgery) and 1. NRS pain scores did not significantly differ between the FIB group and the LPB, either in absolute value at 15 minutes after administration or in reduction from baseline. Opioid consumption within the PACU was significantly greater in the FIB group compared to the LPB group, though did not significantly differ between groups on POD 0-1.
