Dynamic splinting increases AROM in hallux limitus

50 hallux limitus patients (ages 29 - 69) after surgery were enrolled to receive nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, orthotics, and instructions for a home exercise program as a control. The experimental group was additionally treated with dynamic splinting for first MTJ extension to study the device's efficacy in increasing range of motion. After eight weeks, dynamic splinting was effective in reducing contracture of postoperative hallux limitus. It also provided a mean 250% improvement in AROM.
