J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2014 Jul;44(7):475-87

One hundred subjects, 52 shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) patients and 48 asymptomatic patients, were randomized to receive thrust thoracic spine manipulation (TSM) or sham intervention. Patients were assessed before intervention and immediately after treatment. Results from the study demonstrated that patients with SIS had pain improved slightly from pre- to post-test, although the difference between those who received active and sham TSM was not statistically significant. Overall, difference in scapular kinematics from pre- to post-test were not clinically relevant.
