Effects of combining hyaluronic acid molecular weights in knee osteoarthritis
Clin Rheumatol. 2008 Aug;27(8):975-81.200 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either high, low or combined molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) or a saline placebo as an intra-articular injection. The purpose of this study was to determine if varying the molecular weights and concentration of HA would have varying effects on pain relief and patient satisfaction. Results indicated that use of combined/different MW HA provided a significant improvement in pain and patient satisfaction while decreasing the need for concomitant therapies.
