J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2008 Nov;90(11):2322-30

11 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this review, which investigated the effect of electromagnetic stimulation in long bone fracture healing. A pooled analysis of union rate in delayed and nonunions demonstrated a nonsignificant relative risk favouring electromagnetic stimulation (RR 1.76; p=0.15), which was mirrored by qualitative analyses from two supplementary trials. The heterogeneity between studies and diversity in the technical specifications of electromagnetic stimulation made it inappropriate to draw any firm conclusions on efficacy. Further, high-quality studies with standardized application electromagnetic stimulation are warranted.
