25 patients with femoral or hip fractures were randomized to receive either fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) or intravenous morphine in an emergency medical service to determine the efficacy of paramedic-performed FICB. Pain was assessed at multiple time points after treatment via a verbal numerical pain scale (VNPS) and results indicated that FICB caused a greater reduction in pain scores at various time points without increasing on-scene times or adverse event incidence.
