SHOULDER & ELBOW
Higher complication and revision rates with rigid compared to fixed implant radial head arthroplasty
J Shoulder Elbow Surg.2019.Jan 28(1):126-130.
Contributing Authors

KD Agyeman D Damodar I Watkins SD Dodds

Radial head arthroplasty is often required for non-reconstructible radial head fractures. There are two main types of radial head stem fixation: fixed and "unfixed". Fixed stems include press-fit and cemented designs. Unfixed stems include smooth stems which allow motion within the intramedullary canal. In this study, the authors compare these two main types of fixation in terms of function, revision rates, and complication rates and found that while function was similar, fixed stems may be at higher risk for revision and complication.
