Musculoskelet Surg. 2017 Apr;101(1):45-49. doi: 10.1007/s12306-016-0428-x

60 patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade I-II knee osteoarthritis were randomized to treatment with either intraarticular hyaluronic acid or oral hyaluronic acid. Patients allocated to IAHA were administered three weekly injection, and patients allocated to oral HA were given daily tablets to take for 40 days. Outcome measures included pain on a visual analog scale and the American Knee Society Score. Within-group improvement from baseline to 3 months was reported to be significant in both groups for both measures; no between-group analysis was reported.
