109 young, active patients with acute non-specific low back pain were included in this study to evaluate the efficacy of kinesiotape for reducing pain and disability. Patients were randomized to receive kinesiotape treatment for a 12-day period in addition to minimal care, or minimal care alone. Both groups demonstrated significant reductions in pain compared to baseline values at 12 days and 4 weeks. Between-group comparisons indicated that patients in the kinesiotape group demonstrated significantly less pain at 12 days and 4 weeks. The kinesiotape group had significantly lower disability scores at 12 days compared to the control group and consumed significantly fewer analgesics in the periods of 1-4 and 5-8 days.
