Lumbosacral decompression with or without Wallis implant offers similar functional results

60 adult patients with confirmed symptomatic spinal stenosis were randomized to undergo primary lumbosacral decompression with or without a second generation Wallis implant. The purpose of this trial was to determine if there is a clinical benefit of Wallis ligament insertion on functional recovery. Although patients with Wallis implants demonstrated greater improvement in VAS back pain and Oswestry Disability Index scores, the difference was not statistically significant.
