To compare two techniques in reducing edema, 30 patients with subacute hand/arm edema after a distal radius fracture were randomized to either receive modified Manual Edema Mobilization (MEM) approach or traditional edema treatment. After 9 weeks, both treatments had the same results in active range of motion (AROM), pain, and activities of daily living (ADL) and edema reduction. However, MEM needed fewer sessions to achieve same results.
