390 patients who had undergone primary unilateral total knee replacement were randomized to receive either a monitored home exercise program or usual rehabilitation care following surgery. This was done to determine whether a home exercise program provided inferior rehabilitation to standard care. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, range of motion, and the 50-foot walk time test were assessed after 6 weeks of rehabilitation. Results indicated that there was no significant difference in functional or pain outcomes between either of the rehabilitation programs.
