Knee. 2015 Mar;22(2):126-30.

64 patients with osteoarthritis undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to undergo the procedure with or without the use of a thigh tourniquet. The purpose of the study was to examine whether no tourniquet use had a significant effect on knee-extension strength when compared to tourniquet use. Pain, swelling, nausea, length of stay, and intraoperative bleeding were also assessed. The results of the study indicated that there was no significant difference between groups in any of the outcome measures.
