76 patients with acute nondisplaced or minimally displaced type B2 scaphoid fracture were randomized to determine if there was a difference in outcome between surgical treatment with either the dorsal or palmar mini-invasive approaches. Patients were monitored over 1 year and were evaluated based on clinical outcome and X-ray or CT imaging. The evidence presented in this study demonstrated comparable outcomes and safety at 52 weeks. The palmar technique was associated with improved flexion at 8 and 12 weeks and with improved grip strength at 12 weeks.
