
A meta analysis was performed to clarify the efficacy of various venous thromboembolism prophylaxis methods. The results of fifty-six independent trials across 91 treatment groups involving different combinations of treatment and 35 control groups were identified and analysed. The results suggest that despite a small risk of clinically important bleeding, low molecular weight heparin and compression stockings have the greatest efficacy of preventing venous thromboembolism following THA.
