40 patients were randomized to undergo posterior stabilisation with pedicle screws and interbody fusion with carbon cages filled with autologous bone from iliac crest with and without the addition of PRP. Addition of PRP did not lead to a substantial improvement or deterioration in comparison to autologous bone only. However, no inhibitory effect of PRP was observed on CT-scans either. The PRP costs cannot be rationalized, until a larger study renders a clear statistical significance.
