Sixty elite female volleyball players with glenohumeral internal rotation deficit were randomized to participate in horizontal adduction stretching with or without scapular stabilization. The purpose of this study was to assess whether the addition of scapular stabilization to horizontal adduction stretching resulted in greater angles obtained during a posterior shoulder tightness test and internal rotation than horizontal adduction stretching without scapular stabilization. Outcomes were measured using standard plinth and inclinometer. Results indicated that the inclusion of scapular stabilization in the stretches allowed for significantly greater angles during a posterior shoulder tightness test, as well as significantly greater internal rotation when compared to horizontal adduction stretching without scapular stretching.
