19 randomized controlled trials were included in this systematic review, and 13 RCTs for meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of structured exercise and rehabilitation on mobility for patients following hip fracture. Outcomes of interest included scores measuring mobility, balance, gait, function, and quality of life between structured physiotherapeutic care and other forms of recovery therapy. Pooled results demonstrated that structured exercise significantly benefited fracture patients in mobility and several other clinical outcomes. Additionally, further analysis through meta-regression demonstrated that exercise therapy with progressive resistance exercises and therapy performed in environments outside of hospital significantly aided patients when compared to programs without resistance exercise and programs conducted in a hospital setting, respectively.
