Similar Function, Higher Pain and Satisfaction with MOK-cast vs. Polyester Wrap for Ankle Sprains
Foot Ankle Surg. 2019 Aug;25(4):482-487.

107 patients with acute lateral ankle sprains (Grade II-III) were randomized to receive a semi-rigid polyester wrap or a modified adjustable and removable semi-rigid wrap known as a MOK-cast. The primary outcome of interest was the Karlsson Scoring Scale (KSS). Secondary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and patient satisfaction with the treatment and results. Follow up was performed up to 4 months post-operation. Study findings revealed no significant differences in KSS scores between the MOK-cast and wrap groups at all time points. Significantly favourable VAS pain scores in the wrap group compared to the MOK-cast group between 20 and 30 days post-injury, however patient satisfaction with treatment was significantly in favour of the MOK-cast group. No significant difference in the patient satisfaction with results was observed between the two groups.
