Single- and double-bundle anatomic ACL reconstruction achieve similar knee stability
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2014 Feb;22(2):308-16. doi: 10.1007/s00167-013-2398-y. Epub 2013 Jan 23.80 adult patients with a primary ACL rupture were randomized to receive single- or double-bundle anatomic ACL reconstruction, with the purpose of comparing knee stability between treatment groups. Approximately 12 months post-operation, clinical scores improved but did not significantly differ between groups. There was a greater risk of posterolateral bundle abrasion and medial patellofemoral cartilage damage with double-bundle reconstruction.
