188 patients with an ankle fracture requiring fixation were randomized to surgery with or without the application of a tourniquet. The primary purpose of the study was to determine if there was a significant difference in the length of hospital stay between groups. Results demonstrated no significant difference between the tourniquet and non-tourniquet group in hospital length of stay. Operative time and intraoperative complication rate were also similar between groups.
