Walking improves short-term pain and function in chronic musculoskeletal pain patients
Arch Phys Med Rehabil. 2015 Apr;96(4):724-734.e3

26 randomized controlled trials (2384 patients) were used in this meta-analysis to analyze the effects of walking interventions on pain and self-reported function in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP). Results indicated that walking interventions reduce short-term pain and improve long-term self-reported function in CMP patients as compared to non-walking control groups. However, there is the need for further study to determine longer-term efficacy of walking programs on objective health-related outcomes in this population of patients in order to draw definitive conclusions.
