Bone marrow venting improves meniscus tear healing and clinical outcomes in meniscal repair
Arthroscopy.2019....40 patients (44 menisci) were included in this study comparing mensical repair surgery with and without accompanying bone marrow venting (BMV). The primary outcome of interest was meniscal hearing. Secondary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (KOOS) sub-scores, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) index, the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score and the incidence of complications. Follow up was performed up to 30 months post-operation. Study findings revealed significantly favourable 30 month results in meniscal healing, VAS pain score, KOOS sub-scores, WOMAC score and IKDC score in favour of the BMV group compared to the control group. No cases of complication were observed in either group.
