Eighty-one patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive less than 5 hours of treatment with a lateral wedge with subtalar strapping every day for 2 weeks (short group), 5 to 10 hours of the same treatment (medium group), more than 10 hours of treatment (long group), or a placebo treatment with a subtalar strapping band without lateral wedge. Over 2 weeks, there was a greater valgus correction of the femorotibial angle in the short, medium and long groups than in the placebo group. The medium group demonstrated a significantly greater improvement in the remission score than the placebo and long group.
