LIA reduces immediate pain versus psoas compartment block, no difference on PODs 1-2 following THA
J Arthroplasty. 2018 Jul;33(7):2192-2196. doi: 10.1016/j.arth.2018.02.052100 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to postoperative analgesia which featured either a psoas compartment block (PCB) or local infiltration analgesia (LIA). Primarily, patients were assessed for pain scores and narcotic consumption over the first two days postoperatively. Pain scores at rest at 3 hours were significantly lower in the LIA group compared to the PCB group, though differences between groups on postoperative days 1 and 2 were not significantly different. Additionally, pain scores on movement and narcotic consumption did not significantly differ between groups on PODs 1 and 2.
