The Modified Otago Exercises Prevent Grip Strength Deterioration Among Older Fallers in the Malaysia
J Geriatr Phys Ther. 2019 Jul/Sep;42(3):123-129.

Sixty-seven patients over 65 with a history of a recent fall were randomized evenly to the modified Otago Exercise Program (OEP, N = 34) or usual care (N = 33). The OEP lasted three months in duration, and patients were followed up at three months (OEP group only) and six months (both groups). Outcomes assessed were grip strength, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, Functional Reach (FR) test, Five Times Sit to Stand test, the Berg Balance Scale, and the Step Down Test. Twenty-four patients in each group completed final follow-up. Patients in the OEP group had significantly greater improvements in FR test, and grip strength bilaterally compared to patients in the control group. There was no significant difference between the two groups on the TUG test.
